Join us June 9th - 13th | 6:00pm-8:30pm at FBC Portland for VBS!
Mark your calendars now and join us for VBS @ FBC Portland! Our VBS is a free event and will be held June 9 - June 13th from 6 - 8:30 p.m., with Family Night and Celebration on June 13th.
VBS is for kids age 3 - 5th grade will be filled with lots of singing, worship, small group Bible lessons, a missions emphasis, and lots of games. We use all of these activities to point your child to Scripture, and a greater faith in God.
This year, our theme is Breaker Rock Beach. Your child will be challenged as they discover that God’s truth never changes, everyone needs Jesus, and learn to speak the truth in love. Adventure awaits each day as kids explore tide pools, spot orcas, fly kites, and watch the mighty waves crash up against the immovable Breaker Rock!
VOLUNTEER INFORMATION
-
Yes, we need volunteers! Whether it’s greeting and check-in, rec games, or serving food - we have a place for you to serve.
To volunteer at VBS we ask that:
You are a member or a regular attendee of FBC Portland.
Pass our background check as well as do an online training on how to keep children safe.
Be over the age of 18 (although teens that have completed 6th grade and that attend FBC Portland are welcome to serve in a complimentary role at VBS.)
To serve at Vacation Bible School please contact Amy Russell at amy@fbcportland.org. We look forward to serving with you!
-
This list would be enormous if we shared all the reasons, so here are just a few:
VBS is the single largest evangelistic event we hold all year. Children from all over the area, both churched and unchurched, will come, and we have the opportunity to both show them and tell them how much Jesus loves them.
Because you’ll be at VBS, you’ll be able to have conversations with your own child about what happened that morning, what he or she learned, what game he or she played in rec, and more.
You could serve in your own child’s class, getting to know his or her peers!
When you invite neighbors to VBS, you’re able to assure them that you’ll be in the building if they need anything.
-
When you complete the volunteer registration, you’ll have the opportunity to tell us where and how you’re available to serve. If you have any questions about what a particular role will look like, we’ll be happy to help explain that so you can make an informed decision about your VBS role before making a commitment.
Please note: ALL volunteers MUST be FBC Portland church members or regular attendees and MUST complete a background check as well as the online Volunteer Registration Form Click the volunteer registration link below to complete the Registration Form.
FAQ:
How old does my child need to be to participate?
Children must be at least three years old and fully potty trained by the first day of Vacation Bible School in order to participate. Childcare will be provided for children under 3 for parents who serve at VBS.
Can my kids invite friends who don’t attend FBC?
Yes! We encourage you to invite all your friends to come with you to attend VBS any night! VBS will be for any child 3 years to children who have completed 5th grade.
Should we eat dinner beforehand?
FBC will provide dinner for every child who attends each night. A sample meal is chicken nuggets, chips, and a cookie.
If your child is picky or may require a larger meal, please feel free to eat before coming.
If there are allergies that require a special meal, please feel free to pack a dinner and bring it with you. We do try and stay away from nut allergy type food.
Please make us aware of any allergies your child may have.
What time should we arrive?
On your first night here, we recommend getting here around 5:45 to make sure we get you registered and in class before the night begins. After being checked in and receiving a security tag, preschoolers will be dropped off in classrooms, 1st-5th graders will be dropped off in the Worship Center.
*To help make the check in process quicker the first night, please register online here. [link to registration]
Where will I pick up my child?
Your child will be picked up by an adult with the appropriate security tag at 8:30pm in their classroom. There will be greeters to help you find the location of the classrooms.
Are we having a Family Night?
Yes! Parents and kids are invited to come back together on Thursday, June 13, at 6:00 pm in the Worship Center for our Family Fun Night. All age siblings are welcome.
What’s Family Night?
Family Fun Night is our end-of-the-week celebration for the whole family, highlighting what your child learned at VBS. Kids will perform on stage a few songs they learned throughout the week, door prizes will be given, and we will announce the winner of the missions challenge. Then we will dismiss to the back parking lot where there will be free Pelican's SnoBalls, popcorn, and a giant inflatable water-slide for the kids. Please bring towels, appropriate swimwear, and a lawn chair if desired.
